#1000Speak for compassion
Compassion. What does it mean? There are many aspects to compassion, but I feel that caring about others, showing empathy towards them is the central idea.
I never thought much about compassion until I was in my late 30s, and got diagnosed with bipolar disorder. That was 14 years ago. I'd been living with it for years, but I didn't understand that, I never sought help.
When I learned the name for what had been troubling me for so long, I researched it and sought help from professionals and support groups. I got it. Lots of it. Many people were willing to go out of their way to help me. They cared, and they did something about it.
I was so impressed that I wanted to be like them, and have tried to do so since then. That's another thing about compassion. It's contagious. The more compassion you show, the more people around you are encouraged to engage with others and to care, and to help.
Compassion is a powerful thing, and it's one of the most human traits there is.
